Choice is critical – choices are neither better nor worse than each other – it’s up to you. It’s like the menu at the restaurant – do you have salmon or steak?

It easy to get caught up on a particular method or direction for changing your life, as if there is no other choice. When you find yourself thinking there is only one way, then you are in judgment about the situation and you are removing better ways of changing your life.

Istikhara is a supplementary prayer in Islam, which means it is not part of the obligatory prayers each day, and it can be done pretty much at any time. Moslem scholars like to hem in anything Islamic so that only those who properly follow the religion can use Istikhara, but in my experience this is not the case.  Allah is infinitely more generous with His Blessings.

The Istikhara prayer in Arabic is quite short, and there is a gap in the text where you insert the subject or question or desire to know about. The prayer is for the guidance from Allah – you are asking for Divine Guidance and Intervention. The information gained can be in the form of a sign in a dream, or you have more clarity. Istikhara is a powerful method for allying yourself with the Divine.
