Egyptian Gods and Dark Matter
The Egyptian Gods reside in Dark Matter, and they can be accessed using the Card Counting and Pairing techniques for the Opening of the Key Tarot Spread using the four elements. Repeated practice of these powerful tarot techniques opens the door to Dark Matter. The 256 permutations of the four elements in four positions can be put into fifteen categories. In the Golden Dawn, these categories were assigned to fifteen Egyptian Gods, each of which will have characteristics that can be applied to any four position tarot spread.
There are one or two proprietary Tarot decks with Egyptian motifs, which we can safely ignore. Various schemes have been proposed for attributing Egyptian Gods to various Tarot cards, including the Thoth Tarot deck. Apart from Thoth being the God of knowledge, science and wisdom, there is no apparent reason for it. On the other hand, the Golden Dawn developed a complex system of attributions using permutations of the four elements in the Enochian Watchtowers and classified them according to a class of Egyptian Gods. These ideas were developed into Enochian Chess, which is essentially a device to create movement of energies from a passive situation in order to perform divination. It is my contention that precisely the reverse happens with Tarot, properly used. In other words the flow of energies within Tarot can be plotted using the Egyptian Gods. The Golden Dawn explicitly explored the relationship between Tarot and Enochian Chess, principally in terms of Chess.
The 256 elemental Combinations and the Gods
The 256 combinations of the four elements in four positions gives us tremendous latitude, but creates problems with interpretation. I have developed a set of rules based upon very simple laws that combine to create complex scenarios where the RTS can determine relative strengths and weaknesses, action or passivity of Tarot cards, irrespective of the interpretation or meaning of individual Tarot cards. Problems escalate when one includes permutations of Major, Minor and Court cards. For example, for each of the 256 permutations, there are 81 possible combinations of Major, Minor and Court cards, irrespective of the individual 78 cards.
Below is the table of attributions of the Egyptian Godforms according to elemental distribution:

The table below gives keywords provided by Gerald Schueler for the Egyptian Gods with some of my own comments.
- Osiris
- Renewal, Regeneration, reincarnation, reimbodiment. The presence of all four elements, therefore spirit or Akasha
- Isis
- Solidification, manifestation, nature, law, principle, love
- Nepthys
- Dispersion, fragmentation, dissociation, severity. Nepthys rules where Earth predominates, so the keywords are surprising. The reason is that Nepthys is related to the Princesses of the Tarot and the doctrine of YHVH, where they transform from Malkuth to Kether. See the Princess of Disks in the Book of Thoth
- Horus
- Attainment, fruition, man, humanity, the present as a result of the past
- Aroueris
- Cause, maturity, responsibility
- Harpocrates
- Effect, faith, acceptance, innocence. The Child, the Fool
- Athor
- Maternal force, protection, sustenance, fertility
- Sothis
- Initiation (feminine), evolution, growth
- Apis
- Emotions, sacrifice, passion, lust, desire
- Anubis
- Initiation (masculine), intelligence, wisdom, rational mind
- Bast
- Intuition, magick, irrational mind
- Mestha
- Endurance, mental protective force
- Hapi
- Endurance, emotional protective force
- Tuamautef
- Endurance, spiritual protective force
- Qebsennuf
- Endurance, physical protective force
To really access the Egyptian Gods, knowledge of Unaspected cards is required, which is found in my book Tarot and the Magus. Uniquely, the Tarot itself will tell you which Egyptian God will open the door to Dark Matter.
